Me,
myself and i

Welcome to my new website! It took a long time for me to finally bring myself to redesign it. You know the feeling, right? You work on a design, sleep on it, and the next day you don’t like it anymore.
That, in a nutshell, is the dilemma I faced with my site. But now, it’s finally ready. Feel free to take a look at my portfolio;
I’ve gathered a selection of my work from the past 20 years here, and I hope it’s to your taste!

That's Me

My name is Kurt Korbatits; I am from Eisenstadt and work as a graphic designer and illustrator. I also teach 3D Concept Art and 2D Game Asset Design at the University of Applied Sciences in Hagenberg (Upper Austria). I have loved drawing and being creative since childhood. After graduating from a secondary school specializing in music and education, I began studying medicine – a course of study I unfortunately did not complete due to youthful lack of judgment. While still a student, I worked as an illustrator and trained as a commercial artist at the Vienna Art School (Wiener Kunstschule). Later, I completed the Multimedia Producer program at SAE. Then came my professional career: I spent two years working as a print and web designer at an agency before moving into video game production as a game artist. I have been self-employed since 2009 and have had the opportunity to work on many projects – far too many to list here… I also began a Master’s program in Applied Game Studies… In my private life, I love spending time with my life partner, with my daughter and friends, practicing karate, drawing, making music with my band pauzenclown, riding my motorcycle, and playing the occasional video game or board game.

Portfolio

Having worked in the broader field of graphic design for 30 years, my body of work is extensive; here, I have focused on a selection of key, diverse projects – ranging from CD-covers and logo designs to 3D character development, children’s book illustrations, and much more. As a game developer, I have contributed assets to around 30 titles, co-released a PC game, and worked on demos for Nintendo consoles. In my freelance career, I have specialized in designing illustrations for exhibitions, indoor playgrounds, and museums. I also conceptualize and illustrate detective-style scavenger hunts that are truly unique in their format. One of the most exciting projects was the “Library Abookalypse,” which I created for the National Library at Heldenplatz in Vienna. For the Vienna Prater, I designed the “Wurstel” mascot, created the park map, and handled the graphic design for the Prater Winter Market. But enough talk—take a look for yourself…
